When it comes to stump removal there are a few things that need to be considered in order to get the desired results such as tree type and access.
There are three preferred methods used when removing a tree stump.
• Stump grinding
• Removal with a digger, and
• Treating the stump with chemicals.
Stump grinding – the stump is removed below ground level. Although this is often the preferred method due to minimalistic soil disturbance, it is worth noting that there are a number of trees that generate from the root system, so even though the stump is removed you may find new shoots appearing from the root system. Consider the canopy of the tree as the same size as the root system and this may be an awful lot of new shoots. An example of this is a Holly Tree.
Removal with a digger- this method is generally carried out on small or medium trees and due to the amount of soil disturbance it is routinely done if you are covering the area with a building extension or patio.
Treating with chemicals – Absolute Tree Care’s preferred chemical method involves using eco-plugs. These are designed to stunt the re growth of the stump and kill the root system, after approximately one season the root system will be dead and the stump can be removed without the possibility of the tree roots sprouting through the soil.
