A patio is only as good as what’s underneath it. A slab that’s been laid on a rushed sub-base looks fine for the first year and then starts to rock, sink at the edges, or pool water after rain. Getting the levels, the base depth and the drainage right at the start is what separates a patio that’s still solid in ten years from one that needs relaying in three.
What we install
Flag and natural stone paving for a traditional finish, modular block paving for a more contemporary look, and porcelain paving where a low-maintenance, frost-resistant surface is wanted. We also handle steps, edging and pointing detail, which is usually where a rushed job shows first.
How we approach a patio project
Every patio starts with excavation to the correct depth and a properly compacted sub-base — the part that doesn’t show in the finished photos but decides how long the job lasts. Falls are built in for drainage so water moves away from the house rather than sitting on the surface. Jointing and pointing are finished to match the paving type, brushed jointing compound for some materials, mortar pointing for others.
Patios are often part of a wider project — see our landscaping page if you’re planning a fuller garden redesign alongside the hard surfacing.
