We install two types of driveway across Chester and Cheshire: resin bound and block paving. Both can be laid permeable to meet SUDS drainage rules without separate drains being put in, and both hold up well to daily use when the base underneath is done properly — which matters far more to how long a driveway lasts than which surface you pick.
Resin bound driveways
A smooth, seamless finish in a wide range of colours, fully SUDS compliant, and close to maintenance-free once installed. See our full resin bound driveways page for the detail on the system, the finish options, and whether it needs planning permission (usually not).
Block paving
A hard-wearing, traditional finish in a wide range of block colours and laying patterns — herringbone, basketweave, stretcher bond. Like resin, it can be laid permeable to meet SUDS rules. It costs less up front than resin in most cases and is easier to patch if a section ever needs lifting for access to something underneath — the trade-off is a slightly less seamless finish than resin’s flat, jointless surface.
Which one’s right for a driveway
Resin gives the smoothest, most contemporary finish and is virtually maintenance-free. Block paving is more traditional, slightly cheaper, and easier to repair in sections. We’ll talk through both on a site visit rather than pushing one over the other.
